The following data set indicates the ages of a sample of ten biology students attending a local university:

Using the relevant formulae/method, compute the following statistical measures, interpreting each of your answers:

• The mean
• The median.
• The mode.

Mean:

\[\bar{x}=\dfrac{\sum{x}}{n}\]

 

\[\bar{x}=\dfrac{250}{10} = 25\]

 

Median:

Arrange according to size \(19;20;21;21;21; 23; 23; 24; 26; 26 \)

Since \(n=10\), we get the average of the two middle datapoints. i.e.

\[\dfrac{21+26}{2} = \dfrac{47}{2}=23.5\]

 

Mode:

21 is the most frequent datapoint.
