What is the difference between AND (Conjunction) and OR (Disjunction) boolean logical operators found in GIS applications for use in spatial analysis and database queries.

AND means results are true for items that meet all the criteria; OR means results are true for items that meet any of the criteria. E.g. you have a forest and a desert and an overlapping area with people living in all areas. AND would include only those living in the overlapping area. OR would include everyone.

The conjunction (or logical and) is only true if both operands are true. The disjunction (or inclusive or) is true whenever at least one of the operands is true.

The AND (conjunction) results in true for all areas that meet both the first and second.

The OR (disjunction) results in true for all areas that meet either the first or second criteria, independent on the area overlapping or not.

The difference is that with the conjunction both operands are true and with disjunction one operand has to be true.

AND (conjunction) is used to clip or link two or more queries together, e.g. if you are querying two township codes of Mamelodi and Soshanguve, the "AND" will bring you both results. But the OR (disjunction) is used as an alternative. example, you are saying give me a township code of either Mamelodi or Sishanguve.

(Conjunction) AND means when both operands are true while (OR inclusive) (dis junction) is true when either operand is true but never both .

the conjuction (or logic and) is only true if both operands are true the disjunction (or inclusive or) is true whenever atleast one of the operands
